Fis Nordic World Ski Championships

It was with great pride we participated in the Fis Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in March 2011. We were awarded two contracts, PA systems for sound coverage in the Holmenkollen arena during the competitions, and Stage, lights, rigging and PA for the medal ceremonies held downtown Oslo every night after the competitions. 100+ Turbosound Milans, and a large number of Meyer Sound M'elodies on HP700 subs was fed via fibre from a Midas Pro6 console. The arena was divided into more than 70 zones.

The medal ceremonies took place on an 80 metre wide Nivtec stage and catwalk, upon which a James Thomas SuperMega grid was placed on 4T towers. No roof covers, no walls. With snow and temperatures below -15 celcius one should think that was a gamble, but all pieces of kit performed flawlessly, and included Vari*Lite VL 1100, 3000 spot and 3500Q spot, Robert Juliat Aramis follow spots and GrandMA full size and light consoles. The PA system was based on 48 Meyer Sound Mica, in an L+R + delay configuration with HP700 subs. This amazingly efficient system ensured full coverage for a crowd that counted 120.000 people at the most! A Midas Heritage 2000 was in use on FOH, and a Pro9 on stage for monitors.
